Job Description:
The Nuclear Engineer for this position performs the design, modeling, and simulation activities for the Kairos Power FHR (KP-FHR) Reactor Core. Provides technical guidance to other engineers on the Reactor Core design team for design analysis of the Reactor Core, Reactivity Control and Shutdown System, Pebble Handling and Storage System, Reactor Startup System, and other related systems. The Nuclear Engineer will also contribute to engineering design and technology development programs for the company. This position reports to the Manager of Core Design.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform verification and validation for Kairos Power design codes and methods
Perform design activities related to shielding and radiation transport
Aid in licensing effort for PSID, PSAR, and FSAR preparations
Contribute to uncertainty quantification for the KP-FHR core due to uncertainties in neutron cross-sections, fission yield and decay data, and any user input parameters, such as geometry, material density, isotopic composition, etc.
Contribute to Pebble handling and storage system, i.e. burnup detection systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with multi-physics simulation is required
Experience with analysis, modeling, and simulation methods for reactor physics, core design and radiation transport is required
Skills should include knowledge of reactor start-up, control, shielding, activation, safety, and systems engineering fundamentals
Proven team player with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation
Basic Qualifications
PhD in Nuclear Engineering or MS in Nuclear Engineering with PhD equivalent experience
Experience with reactor physics tools and methods
Experience with Python or similar scripting tools
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification of design tools such as MCNP, SCALE, PARCS, and Serpent
