Salary, Benefits & Job Offer Questions

As part of my construction executive benefits package, the construction employer has offered to move us. Should I ask for more than just moving expenses?

Add Answer

When moving from one region to another, you may experience an increase or a decrease in cost of living. For a long time, people leaving California and moving to Washington state made money by moving. People moving the other way lost money. If you are moving from a low cost area, say central Ohio, to a high cost area, say Los Angeles, then you will want considerably more than mere moving expenses. Ask your prospective construction employer about the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) policies. Carefully consider whether you will be able to afford a house equal to or better than the one you are leaving behind?
