Construction is a business. Each aspect of the construction process involves profit and loss, and business accumen.

Whether one work for a construction services firm, or a materials or construction products firm, if there is no profit made then the firm will cease to exist.

Within each construction business or firm, there are specific duties or professions that will focus on one or more aspects of business. For example there is the marketing, sales, finance or operations departments.   The higher up one goes within the company ranks the more management and P&L responsibility one will have.  Often times those who own or run construction firms are not even people from construction (lawyers, bankers, businessmen from other non-construciton backgrounds who understand how to conduct profitable business).

Running a construction business like a business can be achieved working for a corporation or being self-employed. Depending upon your interest in conducting various functions within the operation of a successful business, you should be able to find these functions in construction as in other industries of business.  Added by:- Hornberger Management Company
