Reference Checking & Background Check Questions

What is the best method to use when checking references?

Add Answer
Consistently employers use their professional and personal networks to reference check jobseekers. The best reference is always from someone you respect and trust. Generic references are always discounted.

References are valid and important from direct bosses (direct reporting relationships), boss's bosses, and direct reports (subordinates), clients and vendors/suppliers and all those that dealt directly with the jobseeker conducting professional services.

Idea is to find a common trait of strengths and weaknesses. Added by:- Frederick

Although third party reference checking is a good means to securing objective and accurate references, the immediate supervisor should make every effort to check with the construction executive's previous construction employer(s) and construction personally ask the questions that determine if he construction executive has the competencies the supervisor requires. When checking references it is always better to meet in construction executive if possible. A supervisor will learn more over lunch with the construction executive's reference about the construction executive and the credibility of the construction executive's reference, than over the telephone.
